I cook the cabbage at the stop. Cut it in wedges and cooked seperately from the meat. I apply 1/2 cooking liquid from the meat and one/two chicken broth with butter added to the liquid. Cooked until just well-baked tender. Gives the cabbage a lovely season, it stays green and doesn't become all mushy.

This recipe is very good every bit written and is very easy to make. I ever like to read the reviews and make the recipe the original fashion then again and tweek to reviews every bit needed, I like helpful constructive reviews. The only frustrating thing is when people change the whole recipe. They should send in their own. Tracey did non even annotate on this recipe,(not sure if she tried it) put hers in the reviews and said her family unit volition only eat hers. That is great but I feel information technology is a disrespectful to the persons recipe. Please send in slight changes to help us, do not rewrite. Thank you

Absolutely delicious. I started out by cooking this on the stove acme as the recipe states (for almost 45 minutes) just due to a family emergency, I had to leave the house. Earlier leaving, I put the meat and liquid into my crock pot. By the fourth dimension I got home, the meat was perfectly cooked (45 minutes on stove, then 7 hours in crock pot for an almost 3 lb. roast). I took the advice of some other reviewers and added ane/2 stick of butter to the liquid as the meat cooked and I too used beefiness broth instead of water. The next twenty-four hours on the stovetop I cooked the cabbage, carrots and potatoes in the liquid the meat cooked in the night before. When the vegetalbes were done, I added the meat dorsum into the liquid but to warm information technology. It was SOOOOOO skilful!! I will definitely brand this again!!

Fantastic! I accept always kind of "winged" information technology with corned beef and cabbage, with varying degrees of success. I read many of the reviews and added a bottle of beer to the water to simmer the meat in. WOW! This is it! From at present on, no more winging it! For spices, I used the packet seasonings, some minced garlic. Added unpeeled red potatoes, onion slices, baby carrots and of form cabbage wedges.

this is my first time making corned beefiness and cabbage, and my fiance and i thought it was terrfic, the meat was very tender and juicy while the vegetables was absolutley superb & tasty. The corned beef was three.75 lbs that came along with the spice packet, instead of water i used beef broth, added 6 big cloves of garlic, 1 large white onion cut upwardly into wedges, 2 bay leaves, 12 whole peppercorns, ten small ruddy potatoes/carrots, 3 tbls of butter to bring out the richness of gustatory modality ... all in a crockpot -- it took me eight hours to cook this dinner and it was worth every infinitesimal of it.
11/09/2010
I did not have to cook this recipe, this is the aforementioned every bit my gramps e'er made it. To the people out the writing reviews adding beef goop and what not . . THIS IS NOT Beefiness STEW! IT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO TASTE Similar Information technology. If yous change the recipe then yous are making something else. This is exactly how you brand Irish corned beef and cabbage. If you alter it, and so you are making something else.

Jeepers, it needs onions! Everything except desserts needs onions!
03/17/2013
This will be the fouth time using this recipe and it is simple and yummy. The pocket-sized changes I do is cut up the potatoes and use small carrots that I don't accept to cut or peel. I don't sympathise why the most helpful review on hither does not follow this recipe at ALL! Please post your own recipe and allow people review it. I find it NOT helpful to me when reading reviews. If y'all add Beef broth, brown sugar, mushrooms, onions, fifty-fifty beer. I tin understand ane or ii changes just all that is something different then Corned beefiness and cabbage.
03/16/2009
Thanks again for a wonderful recipe merely cheers also to all who write these dandy reviews. It is so nice to read what cooks call up of the dish they make. Yesterday I made this Corned Beef & Cabbage & in my 45 years married to wonderful Irish husband he tells his Italian wife that it was the best even so. WOW! What is funny to me about Allrecipes.com is that now whenever I come up with a new dish, friends or family volition say: Allrecipe.com?? They know me by now. The reviews helped so much on these recipes. The problem I had with this is that there were no spice packets in the pkg. so I just did my own thing…4 garlic cloves, crushed, pepper corns, mustard corns, 2 bay leaves, pepper, dry out mustard & the just change I fabricated was adding canteen of beer. When the beef was washed I put it in a dish, covered with foil. So cooked my veggies in those wonderful juices till not quite washed. When they were washed I put them in a dish with goop, covered with foil & put in a warm oven till I was gear up to serve. Sliced my cooled down beef, put in a 13 X 9 dish covered with foil put in oven till prepare to serve. I did brand the Horseradish sauce and it was very proficient too, but I found that information technology was cold next to the prissy hot corned beef. I'm sticking to Grey Poupon….Also a little sprinkle of white vinegar on cabbage is great. Likewise helps with any trouble that may occur after!! ? Outstanding!! Wow…corking recipe. Thank you Laria and give thanks you all with the great reviews. Nana Happy St. Patrick'south D

Best Corned Beef and Cabbage EVER!! I didn't alter a thing and it turned out perfect!! Super unproblematic recipe with amazing results! YUM
12/22/2009
Straightforward recipe that turned out a tasty boiled dinner. The only thing I'd do differently next time is skim the top in one case it boils the first fourth dimension and then add the spices.
01/28/2004
I executed the recipe as is (tin can't truly charge per unit it otherwise can you lot?) and was thoroughly pleased with the results. Timing is very subjective of course, depending on the the kind of pot you use (enamelled iron, steel...), your stovetop (gas, electric, halogen...) or oven (regular, convection...), but the times given in the original recipe are a very practiced approximate - just retrieve that tenderness is what you aim for. My only addition was a generous swirl of sweetness butter in the strained broth before serving; it adds a lovely richness to the sauce. Eight thumbs up (there were four of us)!

This is the way it'south washed. We always told my mother to make extra veggie's considering we knew what was coming the next twenty-four hours and that was the best office. The side by side day was cold sliced corned beef and my female parent's vegetable fry. She would chop up all the leftover potatoes, carrots and cabbage and fry up in a well seasoned iron skillet.. what she used as base, butter I think, she would let cook until it got crispy, and then plow and do once again. To this 24-hour interval, I can not duplicate only go along trying. Try it you will dearest it. A medley of flavor..

I've been doing information technology this way for over 30 years. In the last one-half hour I'll pull the brisket from the pot, put it in a roaster and cover it with i/four loving cup of brown sugar and place covered in the oven with just a small amt of juice in the bottom. The chocolate-brown sugar will melt and create a wonderful glaze for the corned beef. While the beef is in the oven I'll use the liquid in the pot for the veges and then I'll as well add together a layer of dumplings to the top afterwards the veges brainstorm to boil. Luv it then much that I do it more than than merely Patty'southward Day

The perfect elementary Corned Beef recipe. There's enough of means to fix this meat, but if yous want uncomplicated and succulent merely follow along and yous won't exist disappointed. I am commonly a recipe "modder" I seem to ever be adjusting quantities and calculation things. Yet lately I take been but trying recipes as they are written to find out how the author likes it. This one was fantastic! I was very skeptical of the simplicity, but wow it only was smashing! Thanks alot!
04/08/2008
Slap-up recipe. added tracey hint: I take the corned beefiness out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smoothen. 1/3 cup of chocolate-brown carbohydrate,ii tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, one/3 cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till shine, then cascade over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. xxx to 40 mins. at 350 will practice information technology. Hope you like it, all of my friends who hate corned beefiness volition only eat mine!
04/12/2014
Lovely people, This recipe is wonderful written 'equally is' - simply I'd like to speak to those of you lot who are aggravated most people changing upward the recipe and then rating information technology, since 'changing information technology upwardly' really doesn't give you an authentic review of the recipe as written. I have this to offering: Some of united states of america use what'southward on-hand rather than going out and buying ingredients specific to the recipe. I find this very helpful on occasion because i) you might not have to go shopping if you use the substitutes or 2) yous tin larn a dissimilar mode to utilise a spice or other ingredient - which only makes you a ameliorate melt. Also - I've establish a few recipe reviewers who have taken allergies into consideration. Sometimes those 'alter ups' tin can be invaluable and save time when you don't accept to scour the Internet trying to find a manner to omit a sure ingredient only yet get the full consequence of the dish. I, likewise, am sometimes frustrated with the review organisation - but if you attempt to sympathize where the reviewer is coming from, sometimes you can make a 'just okay' dish into something completely out of your original realm of thinking. Tolerance, folks ... only by the mere fact that people take the time to review dishes, even if they practise change them a fleck, shows they care enough to share their information with yous. Happy cooking!
03/12/2011
I add one more stride (delicious) after you lot remove the corned beef from the liquid, brush the superlative with regular prepared mustard and then add a thin layer of low-cal brown suger on meridian of the mustard, put into a 350 oven for about xxx min.
04/03/2012
I fixed this 4 times in March. I exercise believe that it is the best Corned beef and Cabbage recipe. I accept a very good Irish friend of 75 yrs erstwhile and she told me it was the best she e'er had...and preceded to tell it to the owners of a 100 yr old Irish cafeteria and store. I cooked it in only guiness beer and beef broth. Added peppercorns, bay leafage and onions. When the meat was tender I removed it from the pot and glazed it with a tart Orange marmalade, brown mustard and dark-brown sugar glaze and wrapped in foil and put it in the oven. Then I strained the broth, then added the potatoes and carrots and a stick of butter. I cooked the cabbage (I used savoy cabbage) in a separate skillet, braising it in the broth with butter until cooked but still crispy. Made a Horseradish sauce of 3/4 sour cream, ane/iv horseradish, 1 tlbs stale chives and the juice of 1/2 lemon. This recipe will impress anyone you serve information technology to.
08/10/2008
Expert recipe. The corned beef is really swell when served topped with a horseradish dressing. 1/ii loving cup mayo, 1/two cup sourcream and horseradish to taste.
03/12/2009
This has been my standard recipe for years. I have constitute ane thing that takes it to the height. After the corned beef is done cooking I remove information technology from the pot or crock pot and top information technology with a glaze of mustard and chocolate-brown carbohydrate. You can mix it to your liking. I make a lot and permit it drip down all the sides. I and then put it in the oven until it is heated through and the dark-brown sugar is dissolved. And then piece and enjoy.
03/xiv/2012
I agree with others...skip the crock pot...the erstwhile fashioned way works best. I similar to cook the corned beef, remove from water and wrap in aluminum foil to proceed hot. So I strain the water to become out the peppercorns and re-use to melt potatoes, carrots and cabbage. This way y'all don't bite into a big peppercorn hiding in the cabbage.
03/20/2007
As per some of the suggestions, I used two cans of beer & 2 cans of beef broth instead of h2o and cooked it for vii hours in the crockpot. I likewise added 3 cloves of garlic and an onion to the crockpot. I should accept given the potatoes and carrots xc minutes. I simply immune for xxx and dinner was quite tardily. Even my hubby liked it who swore he hates corned beef and has never liked cabbage - but he ate information technology all!
03/11/2012
this was fabulous, first I boiled the corned beef on peak of stove in water, 1 guinness, one bay leafage, the spice packet, and one shot of Jameson whiskey, I followed the communication of another review which said to glaze the corned beef for the terminal 40 minutes with the 1/3 cup brown saccharide, 2tbsp melted butter, 1 tbsp prepared mustard, 1/3 cup of ketchup, and three tbsp of apple cider vinegar, bake 40 minutes at 350degrees while the vegetables are cooking, cutting the corned beef across the grain. Serve with soda bread. Information technology is soooo expert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!one
03/02/2005
Just a note that may help in cooking this meal, Add some Caraway seeds when you lot add the cabbage. It volition assistance to get rid of the gas that you will probably get from eating the cabbage.
09/15/2006
Traditional corned beef for St. Patrick'south 24-hour interval.. or any other time of the year when you tin can't stand to have it only once! ***UPDATE: I made this again this year and information technology was absolutely delicious, merely with these alterations: I used ane tin can of Guiness, beef broth, and a h2o to boil the meat. In addition to the spice bundle, I added 2-iii tbsp. mustard seeds, whole black peppercorns, and iii bayleaves. The cabbage took virtually twenty minutes to cook even when I turned up the temp (I took out the meat). I would recommend 2 heads of cabbage b/c I like the cabbage. I used nearly an entire (save the few I snacked on while cooking) 1 lb. purse of baby carrots and 12 baby red potatoes. I wouldn't omit the potatoes b/c they absorb a lot of the table salt and you can finish up with a really salty roast. Anyway, this recipe is a bang-up starting point, but with additions it can be awesome... and it was! Everybody gobbled it up on St. Patty'south. Thanks!
03/17/2012
This was very good! The but change I made was to add together 3 large cloves of chopped garlic. I also made a sauce for the brisket as mentioned by a fellow member named Tracey. This is what she said... "I take the corned beefiness out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. one/three cup of brown sugar, two tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/3 cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till shine, then cascade over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to forty mins. at 350 will practise information technology. Hope yous similar it, all of my friends who hate corned beef will only eat mine!"... Tracey's sauce recipe was PERFECT!!! I'll make my corned beefiness like this from now on!
02/05/2013
Good, bones and functional - what I'd telephone call a reference recipe. I did mine in the slow cooker and added a canteen of Guiness Draught with enough water to comprehend. I cooked the cabbage separately in some of the cooking liquid. Reliable, just more instructional than a unique recipe.
02/17/2014
I'chiliad Irish. VERY Irish. And this is my GO TO recipe for corned beef and cabbage. I only gave information technology iii stars, so why is it my Get To?? I gave it three stars based on how it tastes equally-is. It's my Become To considering it keeps the recipe simple. Here'southward the affair - you don't have to practice anything fancy to brand astonishing, over-the-top corned beef and cabbage. People call back information technology needs to be complicated. It doesn't!! The Simply thing I added and it makes a HUGE difference - 1/2 jar of McCormick Pickling Spice. I forgot this ingredient in one case and never will again.
05/04/2009
this is the best corned beef and cabbage i take ever tasted an perpared, subed beef goop for water and cooked veggies in broth......wow i couldnt finish eating.THANKS? LOL
03/17/2014
I followed the recipe exactly as written. Oh, except I changed a million things. By the fourth dimension it was finished, it was an entirely different repast. Loved information technology!
03/13/2011
I just made this recipe tonight. I didn't change a single thing! IT WAS AWESOME!!!
06/05/2013
Cut off the big fat then cover the corn beef with beefiness goop Add together peppercorns, bay leaf and onions to spice parcel. Earlier adding the spice parcel, you starting time bring the meat to a eddy and skim the foamy stuff off the summit of the water.. melt meat @ 50 min. per lb Take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot'south are cooking in the liquid, Add some Caraway seeds when you lot add the cabbage. Glaze for brisket Put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. i/iii cup of brown sugar,ii tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, i/3 loving cup of ketchup, and three tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till polish, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to 40 mins. at 350 volition practise it.
12/28/2009
Hi, quick question. If I want to end this in the oven do I shorten the original cooking fourth dimension? Thanks
02/28/2011
Oh my gosh! Wonderful. I prepared information technology correct by the recipe. My family of five gobbled up a 2.7 pound corned beef brisket in no time. There wasn't much conversation at this meal, except that they were begging me to cook this again even before we were washed eating. Will definately melt again!
03/11/2009
My husband and I enjoyed this very much. Our kids had never eaten Corn beef, so they were on the fence, however for them. They loved the veggies very very much. I placed this in the crock pot/slow cooker all day. I used a 6qt on loftier. My pot was really total so the cabbage I placed in 1 1/2 hours out from serving dinner. All the veggies were soo skillful. The meat was very tender, flavored well and soo piece of cake to carve up for slices. Will brand this again for married man and I.
09/08/2008
This is the aforementioned recipe my grandma taught me just to relieve time, I put everything in the crock pot.
11/03/2002
Wonderful recipe! I would definately brand this once more. Withal, I would change a couple of things. Get-go, if the corned beef you purchase has an excessive amount of fat on the underside equally many of them do, trim the fat. Also, do as one reviewer suggested, add beef broth instaed of h2o. I also added an onion. Loved this piece of cake to make recipe. Attempt information technology.
03/14/2009
I made this one final calendar week and it was really skilful. I rinsed off the beef when I took information technology out of the parcel, then proceeded as directed. I used regular potatoes, peeled and cut in half instead of the red potatoes and they worked fine. I cooked the potatoes and carrots nearly xxx minutes before adding the cabbage. The meat was very tender and the veggies cooked just right.
03/18/2009
I wait all twelvemonth for this meal just I had never made it myself until this year. A friend gave me the communication to pull the beefiness out of the pot when you lot put the veggies in, sprinkle brown saccharide on top and bake it at 350' until the veggies and cabbage are done. It was And so practiced! Delight try this!!!
01/08/2014
Followed exactly and it was fantastic. Husband wants more!
03/14/2009
I don't even similar corned beef and cabbage and this was a hit! For the well-nigh function, I stuck to the recipe. Just added one canteen of Harp beer, a Tbs. of minced garlic and a nuance of celery salt. I did non include the potatoes with the meat because we were having another potato sidedish, only I call up they would've been good cooked in the pot. I cooked a 3 1/4lb. piece of meat for about iv hours and information technology shredded beautifully. Bully recipe!
01/09/2012
Xclnt, piece of cake dish! made this a few times. I utilize a VERY large pot. I added one tin can of light beer, and nearly ii cups of apple juice. Then filled the rest with water to encompass meat. 45mins before brisket should exist done, I add carrots and potatoes. 20mins earlier everything is done, I added the cabbage. YUM-O!
12/ten/2006
OH MY! So much for following the recipe. While my beef was simmering in viii cups of h2o for ii.5 hrs, I took a siesta. The water all evaporated and the beef burned. Fourth dimension to start again. A glass of wine for me, or perhaps two, a fresh brisket, and half again every bit much water.
06/16/2008
I have been making this for years. I also add a bottle of beer. I also use new potatos and celery, carrots, onion, fresh snap peas, fresh garlic, blackness pepper corns, mustard seed, dill seed, and lemon juice. Red pepper and bong pepper. I can eat this for days. I don't trim the fat. The fat is one of my favorite parts. This is 1 of the very few recipes I brand that I am not fat conscious about. This and steaks. I can swallow this soup for days 6 times a day!
03/17/2011
This is the classic preparation. I follow this procedure with a few changes: Cut the cabbage into large chunks and steam information technology separately until tender. Add together as much butter equally your diet will allow :) and season with common salt and pepper. When the corned beefiness is fully cooked, remove it and put it in a blistering dish. Mix mustard and brown sugar to brand a very thick paste. Spread the paste on peak of the corned beefiness. Put the meat under the broiler until it bubbles and crisps. By cooking the cabbage separately and adding the brown sugar paste you'll relish more than multifariousness of flavors and you'll get a little crisis for texture.
02/26/2007
This was my commencement fourth dimension making Corned Beef and Cabbage and this recipe is definitely a keeper. I will be making this again! I used the cherry apartment corned beef, turnip, peeled potatoes (both scarlet and Russet - couldn't tell the difference in taste), carrots, cabbage, white onion. My corned beefiness did not come up due west/ a spice parcel, but when the repast is complete, the taste is nonetheless to die for. I added a niggling common salt and pepper and a fleck of garlic, but there is really no need to.
03/19/2004
I'm a rookie when it comes to cooking. In fact, I have never cooked a consummate meal before attempting this recipe. On St. Patrick's day, my married woman was working and I wanted to surprise her with a corn beefiness and cabbage dinner when she got home. The directions were piece of cake to follow and the finished production was outstanding! I besides made corn bread (my offset attempt at baking bread). I used chicken goop instead of only h2o as some others had recommended. The carrots and potatoes were really good also!! I was really surprised how delecious the meal plough out and then was my wife!!
10/04/2005
Honey this recipe! Other reviewers advise calculation beef broth, peppercorns, etc., merely I think this comfort nutrient is best made only, just like adept 'ol mashed potatoes. Speaking of potatoes, if y'all decide not to use them, expect the broth to be pretty salty since the potatoes absorb a good amount of salt during the cooking process. Too, for those with kids, mash the potatoes and carrots together (or separately) with a fork, add together a picayune butter, and they'll probably love it! Mine did (age 6 and vii).
03/14/2011
used 4.7lb beef, two heads cabbage, 7 med xanthous taters . Cooked beef 3hr20min,added taters cook 1 hr, added cabbage . cooked thirty-35min till cabbabe tender but crispy ! great !!!
10/11/2002
YUM! I added extra peppercorns & beef broth instead of water (as others suggested), archetype cb&c, nosotros beloved it! My picky daughter ate left over chicken with the potatoes & carrots ;)Cheers Laria!
12/25/2006
if you lot desire to add a bit more colour and possibly a hint more sweetness to this recipe, try red cabbage with the green, it is wonderful.
03/16/2012
Calculation a store bought spice mix and calculation it to water is not a recipe.
01/01/2011
Simply perfect! Even hubby liked it and he is not a veggie lovin guy and then I wasn't sure nearly the cabbage only he went back for thirds!
12/xviii/2013
OMG This is so tasty information technology's to die for! You don't demand Any other seasoning other than the little packet that comes with the beef, non even table salt. The meat itself does all the seasoning and flavoring for yous. Don't be scared about how your cabbage will taste! Another piddling tip - Add SOME ONIONS. I dearest onions and it makes everything that much better!! :) My family devoured this pot!
08/17/2002
Somewhat tasteless - won't cook once again.
02/01/2011
I love this recipe as it is, merely I found making two minor modifications makes it even amend (at to the lowest degree in my family'due south opinion). Get-go, add a half-cup or so of cooking sherry to the pot before starting. Second, supersede the cabbage with 1-1.5 pounds of Brussels sprouts. It makes for a nice twist on an former favorite.
01/28/2011
Fabled! Like a another reviewer, I had e'er winged it when it came to corned beef & cabbage. I followed this recipe to a tee and absolutely everything came our PERFECT! Corned Beef tender and starting to fall apart - which I love - and the potatoes, carrots and cabbage were perfectly soft but not soggy. From here on out, this will be THE recipe to employ!
03/fifteen/2010
This is amazing! I used another reviewers tip and used one can of beer and 3 big cloves garlic pressed through my garlic printing (then plenty water to comprehend beefiness and calculation the spices from the packet) and added one whole stick of butter at the same time I added the cabbage. I also cut my potatoes considering they were fairly large red potatoes and that worked well. Great Great Great Recipe!!!!
03/11/2011
I prepared this just like the directions and my family just loved information technology!!
03/09/2014
Everything is okay until the full lack of onions. One onion, white or yellow, medium small-scale per person.
03/fifteen/2011
Really, real Irish don't even consume this. It's an American Irish gaelic immigrant tradition from when this cut of meat was about the cheapest available. the poorer they were, the less that went into it. They also didn't accept the dainty little spice bundle either. Anyway, add together the carrots, garlic, and if yous feeling sassy, add together broccoli tips. eddy with a guinnes
12/31/2012
This recipe is perfect. I had never fabricated corned beef before because I did not like it as a kid, merely my married man is Irish gaelic and really missed it. I tried this skeptically -- We all loved it! At present my kids request information technology all the time. The best part nearly it is that the cabbage just cooks through, and then it is not mushy and tasteless. It has a wonderful, fresh flavor and is very piece of cake to make.
03/12/2009
We did not care for this at all! The veggies were not done plenty & the cooktime wasn't long enough to disperse the flavors. I think information technology needs to be cooked all solar day.
03/15/2010
I made this Sunday, it was to dice for. My husband simply loved the beef, said information technology was the best he has ever eaten. Thank you
01/01/2013
Perfect and easy! I tried corned beefiness final yr in a pressure cooker, it tasted zilch like this. This is easy. I fabricated it verbal to instructions with a 3 lb corned beef. Even my family liked the carrots, and no one in my family likes cooked carrots. Nosotros simply voted to accept this on a normal rotation for dinner instead of but new years day and St. Patrick'southward solar day.
04/04/2011
made as written. It was good. The second time I added a piddling red vino and water, 3 bay leaves, 3 whole cloves of garlic, ii stalks celery, three carrots,1/2 onion, and spice packet. Left the potatoes out. Added cabbage terminal hr of cooking. Turned out perfect!
05/12/2009
This is the start time my corned beef came out neat. Cheers for the recipe
01/21/2012
This is an excellent recipe! The only other thing I add is an onion.
03/xiv/2009
Amazing. The pot I used was a little small, so it was a tight fit, merely I made it work. Delicious carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and such tender corned beef. A fantastic recipe.
03/04/2003
This is a great recipe. Very easy, which is important. Using beefiness broth was a good suggestion, however the meat that I used could have cooked a little longer and the cabbage was a little under washed, probably 25 min would exist better than fifteen. But overall it was very tasty and the whole family loved it!
03/14/2007
We cook this recipe every year at our St. Patty'southward Twenty-four hour period party (sans the potatoes, add together more cabbage), and our political party grows every year due to word of mouth about the corned beefiness. Last twelvemonth we hosted over 100 people and went through half-dozen large crockpots of corned beef and cabbage.
05/21/2006
Great recipe! I used a giant roaster for this meal since we like a lot cabbage. This recipe is fool proof and ever comes out perfect. I do put my carrots in with the meat cooking process since my family likes softer carrots and I add the potatos and cabbage together so you lot get no tough cabbage in the end. Thanks for the recipe!
03/14/2015
I have tried many recipes like this and they are all good. I'thousand directing my comments to all the negative people out there. Go out it alone, everyone knows information technology is not an Irish dish It is a wonderful one pot meal Stay positive and enjoy. Accept a wonderful family day enjoying this meal.
02/27/2011
practise not add more cookin' for xtra briskets...50 min. per lb..

"What's more Irish than a traditional recipe for corned beef and cabbage?" The answer is - lots of things! Corned beefiness and cabbage is not a traditional Irish dish. Born and bred in Ireland, I was in my l'south when I spent some time in the US and was told that everyone eats corned beefiness and cabbage on St. Paddy'south 24-hour interval. I had never heard of information technology and I still accept never tasted it. When I came habitation from that trip I did ask effectually, in case I somehow had missed this vital part of Irish tradition, only, no, I accept nonetheless to meet any Irish national who has actually eaten corned beefiness and cabbage. Farther enquiry has taught me that, in fact, Irish immigrants to America began eating corned beef, which they bought from Jewish butchers, because of their new-found affluence. At home, in Ireland, it was only the very wealthy who could afford to eat beef. So, eating corned beef on Paddy'southward Mean solar day is really an American-Irish-Jewish tradition.

Wow, I listened to the reviews. I added 10 pepper corns, three cloves of garlic, one bay leaf. I cooked a iv pound trimmed cut for three hours then moved it to the oven with Tracey'due south (her review is highly rated) sauce while I cooked the veggies. The best corn beefiness I take ever had. My family unit mowed through it. This should not be reserved for St Pats 24-hour interval. This is a globe class meal....

This is the first time I have made corned beef and cabbage this way. Unremarkably I make it in the crock pot. I will exist making it this mode from at present on. Adieu cheerio crock pot recipe!

Good template for a superb archetype dish. I highly recommend using a can or two low-sodium beef broth instead of water, which really enhances flavor without oversalting the recipe. If yous're a garlichead like me try tossing in 5 or half-dozen cloves when you lot starting time the meat, and mash them into the stock after they cook to tender.

The best ever! I have tried everything from baking, steaming, to slow cooking. Nothing compares to this i. The only departure was, I added one peeled onion whole, a tabular array spoon of alspice, and several bay leaves. Wow, this is the only 1 for us.

This is the way to do information technology! Comes out perfect. I only make 2 pocket-sized changes. I actually simply let the cabbage boil maybe v minutes. I like it to be much crispier. And, I really don't like the spice packet. Comes out just bang-up without it.

First of all, let me land I am not a corned beef fan. I decided to cover my 12.5 % Irish claret in me on a whim this forenoon and make something in laurels of St. Patrick's Day. Stumbled upon this recipe with such rave reviews that I dashed out to the market in search of a iii lb corned beef and some soda bread...got Guinness as an impulse item to authenticate the meal while I was at information technology, and glad I did since I used the reviewers suggestions and gave up ii of the bottles for the pot. I warned my husband of nigh 25 years that if nosotros didn't similar the meat, in that location were plenty of veggies to sustain u.s.. All I can say is I can no longer say I'm non a corned beef fan...though so far I only like my own recipe (see how quickly something I learn becomes my own--it's a Greek affair)! I added one whole onion, three cloves of garlic (I honey garlic and next time I'll add more), 1 TBSP Allspice and doubled the carrots and cabbage. Not big into potatoes, merely the family is, and potatoes are just then Irish. Simmered iii hours, and then added potatoes for fifteen min, so the carrots for some other 15 then cabbage for the last 15. I heated upward purchased Irish gaelic Soda Staff of life while the cabbage simmered. I served the meal on a large platter with the meat confronting one side of the platter, with the veggies surrounding the meat--I put the potatoes on one side of the meat, the carrots on the other side and the cabbage betwixt, surrounding the meat for a colorful presentation. The adults were given Guinness Bottles a

Succulent. We enjoyed this very much. I had no blood-red potatoes, so I used vi medium-sized russets I had already, peeled and quartered. I layered the potatoes and carrots on the lesser of my crock pot and put the meat on peak. My cabbage did not fit in my crock, then I laid information technology on acme of the meat. I filled it halfway with water, threw in a few beef bullion cubes and let information technology melt. Every bit the crock filled with juice I pushed the cabbage down a fleck. I cooked it on high for 5 hours or so and everything was swell. Loved information technology. I don't think it needed the beef bullion. Very flavorful broth!

This was my showtime time making corned beef, and I will definitely be making it over again! The process is and then like shooting fish in a barrel, if somewhat lengthy, but the results are well worth it. I used half of the seasoning parcel included in the package with the meat, and also took the recommended advice of using beef broth as the cooking liquid. When it was washed cooking, I plant the meat to be likewise salty, so I took the advice of another user and made a simple glaze out of brown sugar, mustard, butter, ketchup, and apple cider vinegar, and so put the beef in a small baking pan and baked it at 350 for half an hour while the veggies cooked in the on the stove. I was a footling skeptical, but the result was an extremely tender, salty-sweet brisket that went perfectly with the vegetables.

I set this dish quite oftentimes as my family loves it! I only add, during the last i/2 hour, the potatoes and carrots effectually the beefiness then place cabbage wedges on pinnacle of everything to steam, cover and finish cooking. Also, to serve DO please attempt a generous corporeality of French'southward Mustard on the sliced corn beef and butter on the veggies ...it's simply heavenly!

It got my 6 yr old girl to consume cabbage. My married woman and two year old son are non too slap-up on corned beefiness, simply the kid and I dear corned beefiness (especially cold leftovers). This recipe was simple and perfect. I haven't added cabbage since my daughter was born, merely I thought I would give it a shot. I did add onions, fresh garlic, extra mustard seed, and celery, but on the whole it would take been easy and delicious regardless. I too cut upwardly the cherry-red potatoes and carrots and boiled them off 10 min before adding the cabbage, so boiled off the cabbage for 10 min, then returned the rested beef to the pot for another x-15 min on simmer. Anyway yous do information technology, information technology'southward piece of cake and succulent. Volition add mushrooms next time, I call up. If you cutting your potatoes don't overcook. I also serve with Southern style cornbread.

This recipe worked well. I did cook my brisket in water and the veggies turned out just a bit bland. Next time I will endeavour using beef broth equally suggested by other reviewers. All in all a good recipe that I will use again.
